Take up the challenge!

During the Practice Week, you will have the opportunity to put your technologies to the test in a realistic operational scenario. The aim is to demonstrate how unmanned systems can remain operational in a contested electromagnetic environment.

The scenario

A unit of soldiers is tasked with reconnoitring an urban area with several buildings and streets. To carry out the operation, a range of unmanned ground and air systems (UGV/UAV) are deployed – equipped with different radios, sensors and control mechanisms. Throughout the exercise, these systems are actively disrupted by enemy electronic warfare. This includes realistic jamming and spoofing scenarios, as well as other electromagnetic interference, all deliberately targeting the deployed UxS. The goal is to create the most authentic threat picture possible – reflecting what is already seen in today’s high-intensity operational environments.

This is where you come in:

For three days, you will be able to test, adapt and further develop your systems or concepts under these challenging conditions. The scenario and deployed UxS can be varied in coordination to address specific challenges. The Practice Week is designed to accommodate both focused solutions – for example targeting only jamming or spoofing – as well as broader approaches covering multiple aspects. A complete solution is not required – what matters is that each approach is tested in the same baseline scenario, with at least one unmanned system and one countermeasure in play.

On the fourth day comes the real test: a structured live exercise in which the developed solutions are evaluated under operational conditions.

To reflect different performance levels, multiple levels of difficulty will be simulated.

Join us – bring your ideas to the field and help shape the future of electronic defence!

What is the further course of action?

25. August – 28. September 2025

In this first phase, interested teams submit an online concept paper outlining their problem understanding, innovative approach, and potential technical perspectives.

An independent expert jury reviews all submissions and selects the top 20 entries per track for the next stage.

7. – 8.10.2025, Erding

The selected teams present their concepts in short pitches to the jury. Based on these presentations, the jury selects ten teams per track to advance to the next phase. The evaluation criteria are tailored to the objectives of each track.

Note: If necessary, accommodation and travel costs for the pitch days and practice week can be reimbursed up to a maximum of €100 per person/per night.

9.10. – 30.11.2025

In this stage, teams work independently on the further development and refinement of their concepts.

All participants are offered a multi-day coaching programme covering topics such as building a business model, developing an implementation strategy, preparing a product roadmap, or strengthening their presentation for the Practice Week.

Teams in the Practice Track are eligible to receive up to EUR 50,000 to cover proven material and development costs and bring their solutions to demonstration readiness.

1. – 5.12.2025, Erding

The challenge culminates in the five-day Practice Week. During this final phase, teams finalise their solutions, make last adjustments, and test them under realistic conditions. They are supported by mentoring and feedback from experts from the German Armed Forces.

The highlights of the week are live demonstrations, technical reviews, and the final jury evaluation. At the end of the week, the best solutions will be awarded.
